Böse Zungen würden Behaupten dass die nicht in einem verzerrten Weltbild gefangen sind, sondern sehr genau wissen was sie tun, und einfach nur die Taschen vollmachen.

If you live in a country where the government values the truth more than cementing its rule, sure the second is true. Otherwise its the first. Some examples:

Yes, if you want the scent to stick longer, you need a higher concentration, not more perfume.

I like EdP, you apply it in the morning and by the evening only the base notes are left, you can then re-apply if you are going out.

Generelly, the scent of a perfume always develops while you wear it. The top notes that can be smelled immediately after applying are gone after half an hour, then you can smell the middle notes and finally the base notes.

Concentration changes how long middle notes and base notes linger, the top notes always disappear fast.

It's also a matter of concentration. An EdC may last for only an hour, an Extrait you may smell for a few days.

about 150ml per year (that's for EdP)

I don't know about the historical reasons. But I do think it is good to have some ordinary people influencing the judgement as well, rather than just some judge sitting in their ivory tower.

Intelligence is similarly hard to define as consciousness.

Turing considered machines intelligent if their communication becomes indistinguishable from that of a human. Most people seemed to agree with that idea, until LLMs started actually beating Turing tests. Since then, the goal post has been moving pretty much constantly. We come up with a new way of measuring intelligence and a year later LLMs beat it. If we take the standard way of measuring intelligence (Mensa IQ test), LLMs have surpassed most humans (source: https://trackingai.org/home).

Truth is, we have no idea when something is or is not conscious.

I am conscious. I was not at conception. When did my consciousness emerge? No idea.

I am conscious. My earliest ancestors likely were not. Which of my ancestors was the first to be conscious? No one knows.

Truth is probably that consciousness is not binary, you can have varying degrees of it. Also, it is incredibly difficult, if not impossible to properly define consciousness.

So how can we say that AI isn't conscious and never will be? We can't, at least not scientifically.

To be clear, I don't believe LLMs are conscious either. But I would be extremely careful with the claim that AI categorically cannot be. Why would that be the case?

And if there is the chance that something might be even a little bit conscious, wouldn't it be unethical to turture it? I think it is.

As a cis man, I sometimes wonder what "cis" is even supposed to mean exactly.

I feel comfortable being a man, and I'm happy I don't have to deal with periods or worry about getting pregnant.

But I don't really tie my identity to my gender, and I guess there are a few things about me that are feminine, or at least not exactly masculine.

So my question is: how close does one have to adhere to the stereotype of ones at birt assigned sex to be considered "cis"
