Yes, not the best things people have done in the name of their country.
- One of the government's justification for the practice was "It was lawful at the time". Now the Supreme Court ruled the law was never constitutional.
- The Supreme Court also decided that "statute of limitations" does not apply so plaintiffs can still seek compensation.
Finally caught up with this series.
One thing that stands out in this episode is the beautiful poem by Osada Hiroshi that Kurushima recited. Turns out the inclusion of such a long scene in the anime is by the author's request: it was supposed to be in the life-action TV drama adaptation years ago, but on the day it was scheduled to be filmed (2011-03-11), the Tohoku earthquake happened; they were not able to film it and it was cut out.
It is a pretty good adaptation overall I think, even though many things are cut out from the source material due to length. (The source manga is 21 volumes long and we are at around volume 8 & 9.) I certainly enjoyed it very much. I still don't know why they decided to re-adapt a series from 20 years ago but I am glad it happened.
This problem stems from この先 being able to mean “ahead from here in space”, or in time which (mis)translated to “the future”. Without proper context (that it is a sign on a road) the translation software had to make a guess, and it guessed wrong.
It may be possible to infer from 前へ行く in the second sentence that it is more likely referring to space than time, but I still think it is possible to construct some similar sentences which even humans might misunderstand.
He made the magnitude of a negative number bigger, and bigger is always better, right?
Acute subdural hematoma... isn't that usually caused by head injury? Did Toriyama-sensei bump his head somehow?
In any case, rest in peace Toriyama-sensei.
If Meta win this lawsuit, does it mean I can download some open source AI and claim that "These million 4k Blu-ray ISOs I torrented was just used to train my AI model"?
Heck, if how you use the downloaded stuff is a factor, I can claim that I just torrented those files and never looked at them. It is more believable than Meta's argument too, because, as a human, I do not have enough time to consume a million movies in my lifetime (probably, didn't do the math) unlike AIs.
But who am I kidding, I fully expect to be sued to hell and back if I were actually to do that.
He’s still bitter someone Sponsorblocked his cat segment :-)
As far as human is concerned Frieren was alive before reliably recorded history, and will go on to live so long for generations to come. To see her commenting "Elves are on a slow decline to extinction" I first feel sad, and then realize it'd be so slow it would be unimaginable to me.
Frieren will probably live at least another 1,000 years. Will Frieren still be alive in 10,000 years? Will she have overcome elves' lack of passion at least once and have an offspring during that time? If so, will her offspring goes on to live another 10,000 years? If elves will be going extinct, it'll still be a long, long time in the future.
EDIT:
Next week will be the episode with the same name as the series title: "Sousou no Frieren".

I know who will be the top contributor!
Their name is ChatGPT.
Japan needs that construction crew for their sorely behind schedule preparations for Osaka World Expo.
Rimuru's Minecraft skill + Ramiris' 3D printing = easy room remodelling for Veldora.
That floating map of Ramiri's dungeon made me think of Aincrad.
@rikka@ani.social :
Beretta became Ramiris' subordinate, which was IMO more of less just a formality since she was literally willing to die for (and Treyni willing to commit murder for) Ramiris in this episode already.
I think this was some interesting world building how they tried to explain RPG mechanics of the dungeon, even though it was just mostly "Ramiris sugoi".
