I know they didn't, but it's in such good condition after that, it almost looks like you could just dust it off, set it back upright, and it would be all good.

Still in better condition than most horizontal roads in my country.

If you drive fast enough, you could still use it.

Need a dune buggy for all those peaks & valleys, tho.

Even with the jumps though?

By collapsing in such an “orderly” way, did this help save lives of people in the cars?

[–] farmgineer@nord.pub 3 points 1 week ago

Probably not. Anyone under the edge is crushed. Anyone on the road surface is tumbled and probably thrown off. I guess it's better than pancaking.

Now I see where the latest Mario Kart games got their track level inspirations from.

Now that's a picture... What the heck!?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Anyone else impressed that the road segments stayed intact?

Is this picture taken at an angle or is it a straight picture of the highway at an angle??

[–] teft@piefed.social 39 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

The buildings on the right side of the picture are upright.

This highway must've been on pillars and fell sideways.

Edit: here is a pic from a different angle:

What's crazy is how long the toppled highway keeps its shape and direction, it just goes all the way to the horizon. Squinting at the thumbnail I thought I was looking at the wall of a brutalist building.

That explains why it looks so clean, thanks!

I think they're just saying it was an earthquake to hide over the fact that there was an incredibly awesome anime battle.

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

That's kind of Inception-esque

[–] SparroHawc@piefed.world 5 points 1 week ago

Well you see, the problem was that the front fell off.

I bet they had it fixed within a week
