#37: Star Trek: The Original Series, season 2, episode 3 "The Changeling"

Written by John Meredyth Lucas, directed by Marc Daniels.

Stardate 3541.9 (December 2267)

"I am perfect. I am Nomad." - Nomad

The Enterprise responds to a distress call sent from the Malurian System, which has since fallen silent. Commander Spock scans the system meant to have over 4 billion people and finds it to be completely devoid of humanoid life. In their place a tiny object floating in space starts firing powerful bolts of energy at the ship. Captain Kirk send a desperate request for peaceful communication and, after several failed translation attempts, gets a response. A being referring to itself as Nomad (Vic Perrin) requests a meeting with Kirk, specifically. Nomad is beamed aboard the ship and to everyone's surprise, instead of tiny beings inside a tiny craft, Nomad is itself a mechanical device of some kind. One that strangely resembles something launched from Earth over 250 years ago.
