Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.

All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body.

If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include not just the twitter.com URL but also Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source (archive.today, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org). Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed.

Mass-tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken Markov chain bot will result in a comm ban.

Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.

Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned.

Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society.

“The 1.1 million layoffs number is 65 percent higher than what was reported through this same period last year. This year’s numbers are also the highest since the start of the Great Recession, excluding the 2020 layoffs during the global pandemic.”

Hold on to ya butts.

The bourgeoisie news and economists won't call it a recession until the stock market falters. If the big number stays high enough, we could "not a recession" all the way through the next Great Depression.

The mainstream media is going to really struggle with their messaging, because there may not be an obvious stock market collapse. There's a sense in which the highs of the stock market are not irrational exuberance, but a rational reflection of how much they're dabbing on us.

If dems weren’t controlled opposition they would run on this.

Ok chuds. Republican trifecta. Republican Supreme Court doing political favors for the Republican president, you won the culture wars, porky got another tax cut and ai is making labor more and more affordable AND they’re richer than ever.

Why aren’t they making jobs? Why are things still expensive?

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 25 points 19 hours ago

Why aren’t they making jobs?

The Democrats are neither equipped nor willing to tug the thread of that conversation. Just asking the question puts us on the dangerous path of realizing capitalism is a system of systems and not some supernatural force.

porky-happy: “Recession? What are you talking about? I’m THRIVING kiddo! Look at how efficient work is now! I laid off half my workforce because I don’t need them!”

[–] ryepunk@hexbear.net 11 points 18 hours ago

6 months later when the "efficient AI systems all collapse within themselves"

porky-scared-flipped please Mr government if I collapse everything will be ruined, I only need 6 trillion dollars to avert this.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 42 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I was laid off 4 times this year my only lifeline was my ticket and knowing people

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 19 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Damn, 4 times? That's brutal.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 28 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah usually after a job is finished a company would just throw the workers at random other jobs until the next one started and needed a full crew. This year it has been lay the entire crew off at the end of the project and hire a new one for the next

I thought shit would collapse in 2020... when we were shutting down I was telling people "shit's gonna get real, see you at the barricades" and then woops we were back to work a month later selling socks to maskless old people

[–] juniper@hexbear.net 16 points 19 hours ago

Yeah how the US has handled the past 5 years has made me so doomer but also like to-the-moon because it feels like this is a process capitalism must go through and we aren't there yet, no matter how much it sucks already

[–] SevenSkalls@hexbear.net 8 points 17 hours ago

I mean it did get crazy around some cities during the BLM riots, but liberal society has learned to have some good pressure release valves, like promising a bunch of reforms, some of which happened and helped, a bunch of which didn't.

People have to stop learning to be tricked by Dem/liberal promises. But then that's been working since FDR, so no surprise it still works now.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 27 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

well I don't think there's any reason to be concerned about this

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 21 points 22 hours ago

This is good for ~~Bitcoin~~ America!

[–] Euergetes@hexbear.net 24 points 22 hours ago

much like covid, economic recession only exists if you talk about it and report data

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 16 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

It's fine Trump will just stop reporting on it

[–] Des@hexbear.net 14 points 17 hours ago

yeah there's this realization now that everyone is so atomized and siloed they can just gaslight forever now

everyone will individually think it's their own failings because they are told everything is good. more depression, mass shootings, lashing out, self-harm
