how is aoc even a politician, what terrible political instincts.

Not a good idea to run against the leader who is incredibly unpopular?? WTFFF

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 48 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

At a time where the base, and grassroots momentum, is incredibly left leaning. She is supposed to be a DSA member, she doesn't want another DSA member in congress?

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 37 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

She's a careerist. Not an ideologically committed person.

She didn't get into this for socialism or ideology, she got into this with a vague idea that she could do something to make things better for people after seeing that others were not, and now she's just pursuing the personal climb upwards as her career.

Everything she says and does makes sense through this lens. She will always take the action that furthers her career.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 27 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe I'm just more cynical but her pre-election life history, combined with her post-election actions, have convinced me that she never cared to do something to make things better. She saw pretending to care and pretending to want to do something to make things better as good optics to get her into a life-long seat, it has always been a cold calculated position.

Did she, though? I'm increasingly convinced that Joe Crowley was deliberately sacrificed as part of an effort to capture and divert the populist energy that was in the air. She definitely has connections from her internships and fell in line after a single milquetoast protest

[–] miz@hexbear.net 23 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

her time in Niger is also sus, coinciding with a CIA-backed coup

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

Ooh, haven't heard about that.

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 17 points 2 weeks ago

Her whole "just a lil bartender blue collar worker!!" schtick was entirely calculated, she went from being an aide in a political office to bartending for less than a year directly into campaigning for her seat. She quit her lanyard job so she could pad her resume with one single blue collar job for her run.

[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 22 points 2 weeks ago

Literally doing worse than Ro Khanna on this critical leadership question.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 17 points 2 weeks ago

they only want to ingratiate to power and things of that nature.

[–] SacredExcrement@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

She has her eyes on Pelosi's spot, and is modelling her game accordingly

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 35 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Chi Ossé is a local politician (assembly member?) in NYC who has been actively supporting the SbWU strikers, among other things.

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago

City Council member, also a DSA member

[–] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 30 points 2 weeks ago
  1. trump is president
  2. you live in the district of a deeply unpopular guy that is seen by the liberal base as being ineffective
  3. you primary them on the farthest-left views allowed by the party

close enough, this is AOC 2018 vs AOC 2025 infighting

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 29 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

"AOC, the captain has ordered full steam ahead toward the iceberg. Do you support the first mate's plan to instead slow down and steer away from it?"

"I certainly don't think a primary challenge to the leader is a good idea right now." say-the-line-bart-2

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago

social-democracy Nooo, you can't primary him! Not when he's just shown himself to be so stunningly effective!

[–] Llituro@hexbear.net 28 points 2 weeks ago

New York City DSA members seen hellbent on demonstrating their liberalism and opportunism. Well, and AOC has some of the worst political instincts of all time.

[–] happybadger@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

"I'm Nancy Pelosi?" astronaut-2 astronaut-2 < Nancy Pelosi

[–] crusa187@lemmy.ml 19 points 2 weeks ago

Damn, honestly braindead take so they must be making promises to her which will inevitably be broken. I know we’re joking about AOC here, but Jeffries is literally Pelosi 2.0, her hand picked successor. There’s almost no bigger corporate shill in the house. He’s not only bad for the democrats, he’s toxic for the American people. Primary his ass!

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I was arguing with a lib dipshit Jeffries fanboy apologist. He kept saying Jeffries is far more popular than people (can) understand. Eventually he gave his main point. His proof as he saw it was tha tJeffries is more popular than AOC. He posted at me with what seemed to be a copy paste thing he used before. It basically said last November - Jeffries got 168K votes (75%) and AOC only got 123,000 (69%).

He must've had a quickie look at my posting history and decided I was so far to the left of him that I'd run to AOC's defense. Or maybe I'd get mad? It's hilarious to me that centrists dems think any leftist is a over-the-moon and cuckoo for AOC. I was going to mention that the dems are historically unpopular (And Why is that?) but I realized I would be a fool to keep talking. You can't gain anything in talking to such people.

[–] Wakmrow@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's funny because libs love AoC

[–] InevitableSwing@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

He couldn't say what he actually wanted to which was he loves Jeffries and everybody who doesn't agree with him is an idiot. I asked him what Jeffries and Schumer had planned once Trump's Gestapo appeared in NYC. The poor libs usually can't run to a fave go-to of saying stuff like "We'll see Trump in court!" I think the guy was so angry he wasn't able to think clearly.

He said what do I want? What can they do? They don't have an army. And he made fun of Mamdani's inability to get the NYPD to do anything and that "they don't even like him." I had a good laugh at all of that. It's leftists' fault that corporate beyond useless dems are beyond useless? And it's leftists' fault the NYPD is effectively a weird city-run dangerous military with a budget of ~$7 billion plus it hates its civilian oversight and it's even even got branches in foreign countries?

[–] Lussy@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

She’s such a moron. Genuinely, she’s so dumb. It’s so hard to attribute malice to her because she’s one of the few politicians I can concede has their heart in the right and isn’t explicitly maoicoous

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

taps the sign: assume malice instead of stupidity (especially in politicians).

probably got promised senate run or some shit behind closed doors, master of deals and so on.

[–] ClathrateG@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

isn’t explicitly maoicoous

That's the issue costanza-maoist

[–] aanes_appreciator@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Her lack of political education just means she's being taught the basics from the ghouls and ratfuckers. She'll be a worthy steward of the DNC counterrevolutionary caucus in due course.

I think that's mainly it. Like functionally speaking, she's an oppurtunist. But, i think it does mostly come from being dumb rather than some kind of plan or actual understanding

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Expect a similar tack (or radio silence) from Mamdani

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/11/10/nyregion/chi-osse-hakeem-jeffries.html

And your immediate instinct may be “oh it’s the New York crimes, nothing they write is true,” then he should simply endorse the man. Especially now that he’s won

[–] Dimmer06@hexbear.net 19 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Mamdani not following DSA line should be humiliating for the entire organization.

[–] jack@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

Why? That's how it's structured on purpose. If you could be compelled to follow the party line, that would be Totalitarianism!

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It’s possible he surprises me and suddenly endorses his comrade. But we’ll see

[–] jack@hexbear.net 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

How can you be someone's comrade when nothing binds you together?

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Despite the heavy irony behind my use of the word here, don’t they share an organization?

[–] jack@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"organization" seems pretty generous when discussing DSA

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago
[–] LeninsBeard@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Why are we asking a mayor about his opinions on the speaker of the house I am going to flip my shit

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

They’re both DSA members in New York running against establishment figures?

[–] robot_dog_with_gun@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

the guy would be leaving the city council, depriving Mamdani of a guaranteed ally. This is way more relevant than asking him about international stuff.

Because if they don't constantly manufacture scenarios in which he has to Say The Right Thing or be Evil then people might actually support him

[–] BabyTurtles@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

Dems scared shitless they might win and be made responsible for leading again.

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago

Osse is a DSA city councilman in NYC. Actually, Zohran also disagrees with this, ostensibly because he wanted Osse as a voice on the council, but I wonder if the dem higher ups also wanted Zohran to keep him in line?

[–] Civility@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago
[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

She's running. AyyyyyOC-big

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 9 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Taking bets on what dirt it is they’ve got on her.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 20 points 2 weeks ago

i don't think they need dirt, to whatever extent campaign AOC was real that's completely gone and has been gone for years

[–] john_brown@hexbear.net 18 points 2 weeks ago

They don't need dirt on her. She chose to join one of the two right wing capitalist parties, she had clearly been planning a move into an elected seat many years in advance of running. She'll do what the party wants her to do because she, like all other elected Democrats, is a climber with very few actual convictions.

[–] SickSemper@hexbear.net 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

She went to brown, was an intern, and is a democrat. They don’t need Epstein files on a left lib careerist

[–] Adkml@hexbear.net 7 points 2 weeks ago

Well AOC just did Schumers campaigning for 2028.

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

AOppurtunistC

[–] deforestgump@hexbear.net 6 points 2 weeks ago

Fine, I'll do it.
