Grayjay since I prefer to handpick my followed creators and disable/move aside the home/discover tab in a given videos program.
Peertube
A free software to take back control of your videos
Peertube is an open, federated alternative to Youtube without advertising or tracking. On this site, you can find a good Peertube instance, with good rules, good moderation and most importantly a friendly community.
On iOS, the official Peertube app works okay.
It’s still being improved, but I’m surprised it became so good, so fast.
I don’t know about Android though.
I use the official app. It's still not great on Android, but it works well enough.
I don't get thumbnails for some reason so I have to resort to the browser :(
GrayJay
They're has been a news break about GrayJay's developers, FUTO. They've openly best to check it out for yourself. But I did enjoy it. On Linux desktop it's irreplaceable. I already paid for it prior to the news break about them. Let me see if I can find it.
found it. I went back to new pipe. https://drewdevault.com/2025/10/22/2025-10-22-Whats-up-with-FUTO.html
thanks, great article and blog, do you perphaps know if this blog has a rss or atom feed? I couldn't find it and really would like to read more future articles from it
one sec.
I made an RSS feed for it. I'll have to figure out how to send it to you. Its a link. I just don't want to openly post it since an RSS account cost money to keep going.
Okay I DM'd you on here the link for Drew's RSS feed.
But GrayJay has both desktop and mobile versions, and a sync option, which means my subscriptions stay connected. Additionally Freetube has been broken on MacOS for weeks, and I tested with another Macbook, because it works perfectly fine on linux.
I even prefer Newpipe, other than the sync options, but without syncing I feel I will inevitably go back to grayjay on desktop as well.
If anyone knows how I can sync between Newpipe and Freetube that would be all I need to switch over.
No, this can only be achieved of the two use a similar account between them.
The official app on android works fine logged out, but refuses to stay logged in and has WEIRD behavior when I try. I'm just using the PWA until that's fixed, because otherwise it's great.
