Yarrabyte's gone missing again. Last seen behind the tapestry wool in Spotlight. No way of knowing if still there. Should we send out a search party?

I wanna let youse know YarraByte is with me and we are getting pissed together. They may not turn up for work tonight because my parties can get pretty wild.

Cheers everyone 🍺

Did they have an excuse for not turning up last night?

Here's hoping the weekend will help me recharge a bit after feeling sick last weekend. I had the last few days at work to myself but I've felt so flat and out of it, I just need a longer rest I think

Yeah last I saw Yarrabyte was cracking into the sewing machine oil and chatting up the computerised Singers. Probably still hungover

I have successfully revived the robovac! Of course we now have the same cat based problem as before, the LittleOne just cannot leave it alone to charge. Off to internet ways to disable the too tempting Ding!

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Here Ted won't stop fighting the robovac, I have to close doors to keep him out

Mr Woof's really not doing his guard dog duties well today. There is someone at the front door dropping off the groceries and he's just nonchalantly wandering around the back yard.

Edit: I just left him unattended with some of the shopping bags for a moment. Instead of getting into the lamb roast that was in one of the bags he thoroughly investigated the box of long life milk. He's just not dogging properly at all today 🀣 Maybe he just needs a good walk.

The shopping has all been put away. When you do a major shop monthly that takes quite a while. Sadly they didn't have the bag of potatoes I ordered and for some reason they decided they couldn't substitute them. Is there a major potato shortage I am unaware of? Fortunately I am not completely out, but I will have to go low potato for a while.

Other substitutions today include giving me red curry paste instead of yellow and a different cut of beef which won't work well for what I planned. So I'm making red curry beef instead of yellow curry chicken, and will make a different style of chicken curry from ingredients I already have.

This afternoon I will be doing some packaging of meat for the freezer and a few other food preps, and hopefully get a bit of gardening done too.

Yes there is a potato shortage. Something to do with a drought in South Australia.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

How very rude of the universe to do this to me. This is one of the downsides to moving house, I would have had some from the garden if I hadn't done that.

This explains why my local had no potatoes last time I was there, sweet potato was the only option. Love sweet potato but it is not a substitute!

I am about to make a really big batch of caramalised onions. There will be tears. πŸ§…πŸ˜

Edit: 4kg of onions sucessfully cut and in the saucepan to caramelise. There were tears, but not as many as I feared. Now I can start dealing with some less defensive vegetables.

4kg onions = 31 serves of caramelised onion. That should last me a while.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

ooh been a while since I've seen a group buy that's a good deal!

Looking at their website I had no idea they're also leaning into hardware these days lol.

[–] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Right? I wouldn’t mind one of those arc microphones but a bit out of reach at the moment lol

I’m going to grab amplitude and see what’s on offer. I mean can always go to news but wouldn’t hurt to own a couple.

Parent made me go to a travel agent to get a quote, and they quoted 7k for a two week trip to Japan. That includes a tour, flights, accommodation and activities. I asked if that could be lower because I'm on a student budget, and got ghosted. I guess they weren't going to make enough commission.

Parents want me to go on a tour because they think I'll be bored, lonely, get lost or something might happen. I like the idea of it because everything is planned and someone is there to look out for you. Bit too exxy though. Solo travel seems a bit scary, especially as a woman. I flew to Sydney solo last year and ended up connecting with a friend. The moments alone were fine, but having a friend just made it more enjoyable. A highlight was my friend and I trying to find each other in the botanical gardens, except she was hiding from me and didn't tell me where she was. Imagine that in Tokyo. The tour company said they can give me a discount, but I'm thinking maybe I should just wait until the end of next year. It sucks because I've hyped myself up for it, but oh well. I waited 20 years before I went overseas (that was added to my HECS debt), so I can wait longer.

get lost or something might happen

Japan is super safe.

I'd say ditch the tour and just organise it yourself. Getting lost is half the fun :)

Tours are great but you pay a premium for having everything taken care of you. Also, less flexibility in your trip. I love solo travelling but I understand the thought of it is super daunting. Japan is a great place to have your first experience with this - it's very safe (taking the usual precautions you would anywhere else). Having to navigate a new place yourself is part of the experience, you can do a lot more than you think. And there are other ways to connect with solo travellers. I'm not coming from this with the female perspective though, you can do research on other solo female traveller experiences in Japan to see what it might be like.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 4 points 3 weeks ago

You can plan your own holiday and part of that might be organised day or two day tours if you are interested. It might be cheaper and easier than renting a car for longer trips.

get a big tour guide book and see what you want t do, DK or frommer is good, lonely planet is clueless. Booking is so easy now because internet.

Think of it this way, you live in a really big city so you already know how to do this :)
