Yeah, she looks absolutely thrilled…

You had a bunch of sex with a guy you half like, spent 9 months like a sumo wrestler, then passed a melon from your body through a hole that originally fit a tennis ball and now you have to spend the next ten years spending a fortune raising a human being, then another decade spending an even larger fortune to raise them to become an adult ....... here's a $50 medal for your effort.

[–] adarza@lemmy.ca 42 points 2 months ago (2 children)

you missed the

....and repeated the feat five more times--concurrently.

before awarding the medal.

[–] SolacefromSilence@fedia.io 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not saying it couldn't happen concurrently, but probably consecutively.

With the wonders of life-saving vaccines for all, why should mothers need to have so many children to ensure at least a couple lived to adulthood? Oh...

[–] Zagorath@aussie.zone 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Realistically it's probably neither perfectly concurrently nor consecutively. Concurrently is unlikely but possible, but no woman is fertile long enough to fully raise 6 children fully consecutively. Heck, no woman lives long enough to do that. That's 120 years not counting pregnancy.

There were three ranks: bronze – 4 children, silver – 6 children, and gold – 8 children. Worth to mention that all the babies had to be born alive.

Worth to mention that all the babies had to be born alive.

As in, only the alive ones counted, or a single stillbirth would invalidate your entire record?

[–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 4 points 2 months ago

If you mean a stillborn would invalidate your series, then no, they simply didn't count.

As a German: That generation of kids was not happy. In fact they were a very unhappy bunch.

[–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 13 points 2 months ago (2 children)

That was also due to the poisonous pedagogy, especially the book Die deutsche Mutter und ihr erstes Kind that was favoured at the time and even still used until the 70s or 80s.

Holy shit, that's a google rabbit hole I fell into. She also wrote, "Mother, Tell Me about Adolf Hitler." Spooky parallels with evangelical and right childrearing books.

Schwarze Pädagogik 😬 Ein weiteres Beispiel, was Menschen anderen Menschen antun im Namen einer Ideologie, Kapitalismus, Faschismus, Religion, egal.

To be fair most of the generation around this time weren't particularly blessed..

[–] EaterOfLentils@programming.dev 34 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I squeezed six Germans out of my hooha, and all I got was this lousy medal.

[–] Successful_Try543@feddit.org 15 points 2 months ago

For that reason it was derogatorily called Karnickelorden (rabbits order).

[–] Railcar8095@lemm.ee 30 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"Women with many children are heroes! We have to praise them, give them medals!"

"What about child support instead?"

"Hahahhahah, good one"

[–] frezik@midwest.social 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

And they made fun of millennials for participation trophies.

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

It was the Boomers who gave out the participation trophies

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

But first let's make everything a family would need to raise a child (let alone 3 or 4) extremely expensive and gut any and all support for the mother and child.

Next complain that it's avocado toast that is keeping the lazy Millennials from having kids!

[–] SippyCup@feddit.nl 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Listen if the millennials haven't had kids by now they probably aren't going to.

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

I agree but they seem to still be the generation that gets beat up by the media, though gen Z is starting to come into focus as the next generation that is "destroying everything!!!"

She looks like she has so many kids because her husband rapes her routinely.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 3 points 2 months ago

Government: Oh we're not gonna help you afford all those kids. That's commie shit.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm just waiting on the participation trophies for every time I have sex

[–] RedditRefugee69@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 2 months ago

Don't you have to participate to get one of those?

[–] sirico@feddit.uk 11 points 2 months ago

Should you enable an environment where having children doesn't mean you're worse off or shiny trinket

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/trump-administration-5000-baby-bonus-incentivize-public-children/story?id=121094707

Simone Collins and her husband, Malcolm Collins, are pro-natalists who have advocated actions to make it less difficult for families to have children and ultimately reverse declining birth and marriage rates. Simone Collins told ABC News that she and her husband have submitted several draft executive orders to the White House Domestic Policy Council, including bestowing a "National Medal of Motherhood" to mothers with six or more children.
