As a European it's now 4th July, so felt it was the right time to post

So I only ever need an account with one instance to browse the whole "fedeverse"?

Pretty much. Isn't it wonderful?

There are some exceptions though. Your instance might have chosen to defederate with another one (or vice versa). Then you won't see that content and they won't see yours (sort of, there are some differences between defederating and being defederated, but that's the gist).

Actually to me it's essential, feddit.ch is pretty empty so if I needed a seperate account with each instance and to switch between them I would feel like I'm missing out on too much content. Now I see the potential

For the most part, yes. The exception is if either the instance you're trying to post to, or the instance you're on, have defederated ("block") from one another then that won't work.

Well, to browse Lemmy and Kbin. The Fediverse is much larger than those two.

You'll also not be able to interact with any instances that yours is defederated from, but it looks like you're currently not blocking anyone at all so that's not a concern. You can check federation lists at https://feddit.ch/instances
