Seeing Bryan Cranston as a goofy, kinda dopey dad when you're used to him being an unhinged violent drug dealing is quite the tone shift.

that was a spoof of some other guy who was on two shows back in the day. bill newman or something.

Bob Newhart. They basically rebooted his own show, and ended the second show with the "it was all just a dream" gag with him back in the first show.
