Do people unironically think dating someone 5 years younger than you, in your 30's, is problematic??
Something tells me that this has to do with the fact that people have begun taking that whole oversimplified "Your brain doesn't finish developing until you're 25" pop science factoid at face value, with some people making the take that 25 should be the age of majority, even, with little to no pushback. It definitely reeks of some paternalistic virtue signaling about how "protective" of children these people think they are. The Dunning-Kruger effect is strong with this, too, because the people who say this appear to have a "I'm so smart because I base my view of this off the science!" sort of thought process.

Bottom line is that if a policy like this were to have been enacted in my past, I would've literally died due to how my parents are.People are so lacking in critical thinking skills that they consider reifying this neuroscientific misconception more important than people's fucking lives.
And that's not even me going into all the other troubling complications that something like this would bring.
I’ve seen that number at higher than 25, usually it’s conveniently at whatever age the person spouting the bullshit is currently at. Funny how that happens, just a coincidence I’m sure.
Usually those spouting these “protective” takes will also post about how their children refuse to talk to them despite them being literal angels who’ve done nothing wrong ever, and if you look into their post history they’ll be justifying horrific physical abuse and “jokingly” threatening to murder their child’s (usually daughter’s) partner. It’s a control thing.
