another reason just from personal experience with a cat who liked laying next to my desk chair, is that its incredibly easy to catch their fur (or god forbid their paw) under the wheels of your chair if they make a habit of sleeping right next to you, behind you, etc

not as much of an issue with a big dog I guess, but cats can be stealthier and are smaller relative to their long fur and size of chair wheels
