Hello all, I'm hoping to get some feedback on whether I would like this game or not before I decide to buy. I love space games and the idea of it intrigues me but I like to have a narrative/story to give me a reason to 'do' stuff. I tend to quickly lose interest in sandbox type games because they start to feel pointless to me. I feel like I've seen conflicting reports on whether NMS is more narrative or sandbox.

Also, I'm a dad so I have limited time to play. If this is the kind of game that requires hundreds of hours before it gets good or to the 'story' (such as it may be), I probably won't be able to properly enjoy it.

Feel free to ask me anything else that may help you give a recommendation and thanks in advance! I honestly want to be convinced to pick it up but I have doubts. :-P

I actually have Elite and have spent some time (and had fun!) with it but again I hit that wall of 'But why should I care? Why am I doing this? What is my incentive?' I guess I'm just an exceedingly boring person who has no imagination. :-)

Nah, you just get activated by different things! For me, I like playing multiplayer games because what activates me is the way humans always surprise me, singleplayer shooters even with tons of setpiece cinematic action don't hook me because there isn't that evolving conversation.
